Datacenter Engineer (Gaming)

  • Rotterdam
  • Vast Contract
  • HBO werk- en denkniveau

Our customer has Low latency as their mission! In 2002 they set out to improve online experiences for gamers. Today, they translate hosting innovations to various industries, but gaming is still in their DNA. And as of 2019, they are part of a big gaming company! They build out their network presence in data centers across the globe – from Moscow to Mumbai, Amsterdam to Seattle, and everything in between – bringing content closer to the users.   Their team works hard on everything related to running their privately owned premium network, from opening new points-of-presence, setting up peering relationships, developing integral products like anti-DDoS protection, and serving their customers with expert help and advice. Finally, they play even harder, in our office gym and bar, and with a lifetime access to games.

As a System Infrastructure Engineer no two days are the same. However, from the moment you step in until you leave you always have a lot of things to do. Once you have arrived at the office, the first thing you do is grab a delicious cup of coffee. We start with a daily stand up to discuss all open tasks and divide them among the team.   You spend the morning managing our server park and solve the problems that occurred during the night. Multi-tasking is required because while you are working on this colleagues from other departments will regularly ask you for advice.   After lunch, you work on deliveries for existing and new customers. You interact with the Project Management department, NOC, and other departments. In the meantime, you set up remote-hands assignments around the world and ensure that the deadlines are met. Unfortunately, an incident throws a spanner in the works and you have to start working on this in order to minimize the impact for our customers. You solve problems as quickly as possible and you take measures to prevent them from occurring in the future. At the end of the day, you have time to arrange a visa application because in two weeks you will have to go to the US for a project!

Your Responsibilities
  • Executing work assignments (at the office as well as in the Rotterdam data center and locations around the world).
  • Being actively involved in the delivery of small and large games and enterprise projects.
  • Server maintenance.
  • Installing and deploying servers.
  • Advising other departments regarding technical issues.
  • Answering questions about game servers, dedicated servers, colocation and backup services via our support channels.
  Your Skills
  • Relevant work experience.
  • A proven track record in IT engineering (preferably experience with data centers).
  • Experience with (server) hardware.
  • Basic knowledge in Linux and Windows server.
  • Confidence to work under pressure.
  • English and Dutch communication skills (spoken and written).
  • Analytic skills.
  • You are a team player.
  • Willingness to travel (10% work on site globally, 90% office).
  • A pro-active attitude: come up with improvements and suggestions in a constructive way.
